National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

September 30, 2023, is Canada’s 3rd National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This honours the lost children and Survivors of residential schools, their families and communities. As public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process, ACOT will be closed on Friday September 29. ACOT staff will be reflecting on readings and participating in activities designed to bring greater awareness of the truth about Canada’s history and the need for reconciliation. There are many examples of related resources and activities publicly available, such as these (list from 2021, list from 2022, and list from 2023). We encourage all occupational therapists to do their own research and participate in Truth and Reconciliation activities of their choosing.
