September 30, 2025, is Canada’s 5th National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The day honours the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, their families and communities. As public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process, ACOT will be closed on Tuesday September 30.
ACOT staff and Council will be reflecting on readings and participating in activities designed to bring greater awareness of the truth about Canada’s history, the need for reconciliation, and our part in the reconciliation. There are many examples of related resources and activities publicly available, such as these ones that ACOT staff and Council refer to.
We encourage all occupational therapists to do their own research and participate in Truth and Reconciliation activities of their choosing.
