Annual College Selected Learning Activity

ACOT requires mandatory training annually to ensure all occupational therapists registered in Alberta share foundational knowledge. The 2026/2027 College selected requirement is ACOTRO’s eLearning module: Advancing Culture, Equity and Justice in Occupational Therapy Practice. This eLearning module was created by occupational therapists across Canada, for occupational therapists. It draws on The Competencies for Occupational Therapists in Canada (ACOTRO, ACOTUP & CAOT, 2021/2024). Its focus is a better understanding of Domain C of the Competencies, including important concepts related to culture, equity and justice in occupational therapy practice. The eLearning module will help you gain insight into the vast diversity across Canada’s populations and how this diversity relates to health equity and outcomes. It will also help you understand individual and collective strategies for culturally safer and equitable practice as it applies to real life occupational therapy situations. All occupational therapists across Canada are taking this e-Learning module, which facilitates continued labour mobility across Canada.

The e-Learning module can be accessed from the My Learning section of your online profile by clicking on the arrow beside the 2026/2027-year indicator:

Then clicking on the College Selected tab:

Or by clicking on the Courses tab:

Please see Accessing Courses on ACOT’s Online Platform for additional navigation assistance. You will need to complete the e-Learning module any time before or during your registration renewal in January/February 2027.

Timing For The Regulated Professions Neutrality Act

The Regulated Professions Neutrality Act (RPNA)received royal assent on December 11, 2025. A description of the RPNA can be found here: https://www.alberta.ca/protecting-freedom-of-expression-for-regulated-professionals Health profession regulators, including ACOT, will be subject to the RPNA as of August 10, 2027.

All health profession regulators in Alberta, including ACOT will complete the work necessary to ensure alignment with the RPNA when it comes into effect. This will include reviewing and updating any necessary mandatory training requirements, policies, bylaws, guidelines, Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics, etc.

ACOT will continue to adhere to our responsibility to protect the public through education of occupational therapists on the requirements within our current Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics and the Competencies for Occupational Therapists in Canada. We will balance this with our work to align with the RPNA by August 2027.
