Updated Practice Guideline: Informed Consent

Now posted to the Practice Resources section of the ACOT website is the revised Practice Guideline: Informed Consent.  This guideline has been updated to reflect ACOT’s current Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics.  It addresses informed consent expectations while taking into consideration issues unique to children, mature minors, adults, capacity, and emergency situations.  Related documentation expectations are also addressed. Overall, this guideline emphasizes the importance of enabling clients to participate in an informed consent process that facilitates information exchange and confirmation of mutual understanding regarding the client’s occupational therapy services.

Please take a moment to review the guideline.  If you have any questions about its application to your practice context, please contact info@acot.ca.
