Permit Renewal Declarations, Registration Reminder, OTs Have Impact!

Permit Renewal Declarations

We have been reviewing the files for OTs who have renewed their practice permits for 2021-2022 and noticed that a significant percentage have declared they have completed the mandatory modules on maintaining appropriate boundaries, without adding a Learning Record to their Learning Plan as evidence to support this declaration. It is unclear whether this means the declaration was checked without completing the modules or the OTs simply forgot to add a Learning Record for them.

We will be contacting OTs who declared they completed the modules but did not add a Learning Record, to prompt them to complete this step. If you still need to complete the mandatory modules, they can be found here: https://afrhp.org/bill21-protecting-patients/

Refer to the CCP Step-by-Step Guide or the Completing Your CCP video tutorial (Part 3) for information on how to add a Learning Record to your Learning Plan; both of these resources can be accessed from the CCP Resources page of the ACOT website.

Please note you are expected to read all permit renewal declarations over carefully before checking that you agree with them; it is a serious offence to make a false declaration.

Registration Reminder

Our system is open to renew your practice permit online at www.acot.ca. Be sure to renew before February 28, 2021 to avoid having your practice permit cancelled. Note that extra time for renewal is required if you have profile updates such as a name change or addition of an employer that is not currently in our system, so be sure to start your renewal well before the end of February.

You may notice our list of employers has changed in our system. We have been working to remove duplicates and tighten up categories. If you do not see your employer in the drop down pick list, refer to the section on modifying your employment information in the Registration Renewal Guide.

New video tutorials have been prepared to assist you in renewing your registration including a series on Updating Your Profile and another on Completing Your Continuing Competence Program (CCP). See the CCP Resources page of the ACOT website for these and other resources developed to make registration renewal go more smoothly.

OTs Have Impact!

ACOT salutes all OTs who are working diligently with their clients to achieve optimum function together. This client testimonial is a great reminder of the positive impact OTs can have on their client’s lives, and the reason many of us became OTs:

“Of the dozens of medical professionals we’ve come into contact with over the past few years for client’s name and condition care, OT’s name has improved the client’s quality of life more than anyone we’ve encountered.  The OT’s warmth, professionalism & competence (especially mid-pandemic) has been outstanding, and we just wanted to share our gratitude & appreciation with somebody”!
