New Informed Consent Guidelines, Standards Refresh & CCP Meet Up

New Practice Guidance on Informed Consent

ACOT is pleased to post our new Practice Guideline on Informed Consent. This Guideline has been informed by a scan of other Colleges’ guidance on the topic, our legal counsel, questions we receive about informed consent at the ACOT office, and valuable input from many reviewers. Thank you to all who participated in the creation of the document. We trust you will find it informative.

SoP Refresh

The Standards of Practice (SoP) Working Group and Refresh Steering Committee have been hard at work drafting ACOT’s new SoP. The Code of Ethics (CoE) Working Group will start their work in September. ACOT would like to thank the group members involved in this process for volunteering their time and valuable input.

The first 2 SoP (Competence and Restricted Activities) are currently being reviewed by legal counsel and once they are back, you will get the chance to review them! This review is an important part of the SoP process and is legislated in the Health Professions Act (HPA) in Section 133(2):

The college must provide, for review and comment, a copy of a proposed code of ethics and proposed standards of practice and proposed amendments to its regulated members

Watch for these drafts to be released to you at the end of August. It is important to note that we are required by government to have certain components in these 2 SoP, which cannot be changed. We will be sure to highlight which parts can be changed, and which parts cannot, so you know where to focus your valuable input. After you review these drafts, we will continue to send out each new SoP and the Code of Ethics (CoE) for your review as they are drafted and reviewed by our legal counsel. These are exciting times at ACOT, and if you are looking for more information on the background or process of our refresh project, check out the Part 1 and Part 2 Refresh Reports and the Refresh Project Terms of Reference or on the ACOT website (acot.ca) under the Continuing Competence tab (scroll to the bottom of the page).

Would you like the opportunity to get quick and easy advice from ACOT staff while you login and add content to your own CCP? Or network with other OTs from across the province about how they approach selecting indicators or creating their learning plans for their practice area/setting?

If so, join us for our 30 mins, Spring and Summer CCP Meet Ups. No need to pre-register, just click on the link for the session date/time below.
