January eNews – Renew Now!

Your current practice permit expires on February 28, 2015. However, as per section 13.3 of the Bylaws of the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists “Registration fees … must be received by ACOT no later than February 1 in each year.” Any member who has not renewed their membership by January 28, 2015 will receive an official 30 day notice.

Currently there are an unusually large number of outstanding registrations. Should the majority of members with outstanding registrations for the upcoming year wait until the last day to renewal their practice permit there is a risk of the system crashing. Please note that the office will not be open on the last day of renewal, February 28 2015, as it is a Saturday. If you have technical problems or any questions that day there will be no assistance available. It is recommended that you renew prior to 4:00 p.m. on February 27, 2015 to ensure that someone is available at the office to help you should you encounter any problems during the renewal process.

All Practice permits must be renewed online by clicking on the “Member Login” link on the ACOT website (www.acot.ca). The continuing competence program for the 2014-2015 registration year must be submitted before the system will allow you to renew your registration.

If you have not renewed by 11:59 p.m. on February 28 2015, your registration will be cancelled and you will no longer be able to practice. All cancelled individuals will be required to re-apply to the College in order to obtain their practice permit. In order to re-apply members will need to submit an application to the College with their membership fees as well as a $150.00 application fee before they are eligible to be reregistered. They must also submit their continuing competence program for the 2014-2015 year in order for their application to be considered complete as stated in the Health Professions Act, RSA 2000 cH-7 40(1) “an application for a practice permit is complete for consideration …if it is in the form required and given to the Registrar by a regulated member (40)(1)(b)(ii) who meets the requirements for continuing competence of applicants for a practice permit provided for in the regulations”.
