RENEWAL 2024, New Fee Structure, Mandatory Modules, HOLIDAY OFFICE CLOSURE

Renewal Opens January 1, 2024

You will be able to renew your practice permit online beginning on January 1, 2024. Access the Registrant Login to the online platform at acot.ca.

Note: it can take up to 10 business days if renewal approval is required. This happens if you have profile updates such as a name change or addition of an employer that is not currently in our system. Be sure to start your renewal well before the end of February.

New Fee Structure

ACOT has not updated its fees since 2007, and each year we have many occupational therapists who do not renew their practice permits by the end of February. Our new fee structure is:

  • Early-bird renewal fee of $550 – effective January 1 through February 14, 2024.
  • Full renewal fee of $650 – effective February 15 through February 29, 2024.
  • Cancellation if not renewed before March 1, 2024:
    • $150 re-instatement fee, plus
    • $650 full renewal fee
    • Requires new criminal record check with vulnerable sector check
    • Proof of personally held liability insurance
    • You are NOT able to work until are re-registered, which can take up to two weeks or more.

Be sure to renew before February 29, 2024, to avoid having your practice permit cancelled.

Not Planning to Renew?
Please login before February 29, 2024, to actively cancel your practice permit as of March 1, 2024.

Mandatory Modules

This year and in alternate years going forward, all registrants are required to retake the modules on prevention of sexual abuse and sexual misconduct. These free online modules take approximately 2 hours to complete, and you will record your completion through a declaration during your 2024-2025 registration renewal process. If you have completed the modules within the six months preceding renewal, you are able to state this in your declaration, otherwise you will need to re-take them. Please keep a copy of your completion certificate for your records, as you may be asked to produce it as part of a random check.

ACOT’s Council has directed that all registrants complete these modules every two years, as ACOT’s recent hearings have dealt with sexual abuse and sexual misconduct related complaints. This underscores the importance of all registered occupational therapists understanding the power imbalance that exists between themselves and their clients, and the need to maintain appropriate boundaries with clients.

Holiday Office Closure

Note ACOT will be closed over the holidays from noon on December 22, 2023, through January 1, 2024, and will resume email, phone, and by-appointment office visits on January 2, 2024.

We wish you and yours a safe and happy holiday season!
