Standards of Practice Refresh

From May 2022 to February 2023, the 29 members of the Refresh Project Working Groups and Steering Committee worked together with ACOT staff to prepare the new set of Standards of Practice (SoP) and the Code of Ethics (CoE). The content in the new SoP and CoE was included based on initial consultation with ACOT registrants in March 2022, a fulsome review of other colleges’ SoP and CoE (provincially, nationally, internationally), consultation with legal counsel and other key partners, and follow-up consultation with registrants from August 2022 to February 2023.

Draft Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics

In accordance with the requirements outlined in the Health Professions Act section 133(2)(b), the following drafts were submitted to the Minister of Health on March 13, 2023.

DRAFT Standards of Practice and DRAFT Code of Ethics

NOTE: Two of these standards were approved by Council effective June 16, 2023Accountability and Professional Responsibility and Restricted Activities. The remaining eleven standards in the DRAFT Standards of Practice document are awaiting external reviewer feedback. ACOT’s current Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics remain in place until we receive this feedback from government and the remaining eleven new SoP and CoE are adopted by ACOT Council.

As of April 1, 2024, we are still waiting to receive feedback from government. In the meantime, we will continue to socialize registrants to the new (draft) SoP and CoE through the college-selected mandatory training module that registrants are to complete during the 2024-2025 registration year. ACOT Staff will also be scheduling both in-person and virtual information sessions starting Summer 2024.
